Your office is very much like an extension of your home and your own personality. It is the place where you spend most of your time during the week and it should be made as comfortable, clean and productive as physically possible. It is a place where you need to make sure you and your employees have everything they need to complete work in a productive way throughout the work week.

You may already have an office, but if you don’t and you are thinking about opening up an office space for your business, you will need to know everything you need for the space.

Location

The first thing you may need to consider when looking for the right office space is the location. If you are working alone and simply want a base for your work, then you may want it to be within an easily commutable distance from your home. When you have multiple employees in the business working remotely, you will need to find a commutable space for your staff. This can be a little more difficult as people will live in different areas. Generally, you will be able to find a common ground.

Natural Light

One of the things you will want to really consider when looking for the perfect office is the amount of natural light. Ideally you will want large windows, which will enable you and your employees to work productively and make the most of the daylight on bright, sunny days. Light can have a huge impact on your mood. Working in a place with little natural light can bring you down quickly.

Space

Decide on how many employees will work in your office and make sure you have the facility to house them all with a good amount of space. It could be that you are renting a space in a larger office building, or you are buying a plot of land yourself. It will depend on the type of business you operate and the number of employees you have or plan to have.

Parking

Make sure that you have sufficient parking facilities for everyone who owns a car. Ideally you will want to have your own separate car lot to keep your employees’ vehicles safe while they are at work. If not, you may have to look into paying for a parking permit for your employees in a shared or public parking lot.

Checklists

When you have finally chosen the office space you desire, you will need to start filling the space with business supplies. Make sure that you have plenty of storage space for stationery and documents. Install your desks, computers and chairs in advance before you buy anything else. Once you are all set up, these are the things you will want to look at buying for your employees:
Pens

Pencils

Highlighters

Colored pens

Once you’ve kitted out the offices with everything you need for work, you will also need to kit out the rest of the building with amenities for employees to use during the day.

Fridge

Microwave

Kettle

Ideally, you will want to make your office into a comfortable place for your employees- a place where they have everything they need and they almost feel like they are at home. Having food facilities and a small seating area outside, for those who want some fresh air during their lunch, can make a huge difference to employee morale. Bear in mind that your employees are people. They need to be comfortable in order to work productively. Having an office within reach and facilities they require will make your employees much more likely to stay with you and stay loyal to the company.
