In many careers, upward progression often means taking a role that covers multiple locations. This can lead to you traveling for a large proportion of your day. There are some benefits to having a job that takes out of the confines of one single office space and lets you travel, you will get to see different towns and cities, and you will get to widen the circle of the people you work with an interact with.

But there are downsides to a traveling role that sees you constantly on the move. It can be very tiring to travel so much, and if you do not manage yourself well and get into good habits, it can consume your life.

Vehicle Maintenance

Working in a traveling role will often mean needing to drive. If you have your own car or are using a company vehicle, you will need to take good care of it. Make sure that it is safe and legal to drive at all times. This means keeping yourself stocked up on oils and coolant from somewhere like PEAKHD, and keeping your engine topped up. You should also check your tyre pressure and tread levels weekly.

Tracking Mileage

If you earn expenses based on the mileage that you drive, get into the habit of recording everything. Travel costs can be expensive, and if you need reimbursement for out of pocket expenses, it is your responsibility to make sure you are keeping on top of recording this information.

Taking Breaks

If you are driving for several hours each day, make sure you take breaks. Even a five-minute break to stretch your legs can be helpful. Get fresh air when you are driving, and make sure you stop if you are too tired.

Remember To Factor Travel Into Your Day

Make sure that you are not working long days and then spending hours on top of this driving. Your employer should not expect you to spend unreasonable amounts of time out of the house. Much of your travel time should be factored into your working day. Make sure you are strict with yourself on this point and don’t allow the amount that you travel for work to consume your home life.

Switch Off Your Emails

When you get home from work at night, make sure that your email notifications are switched off and you are not working from home. If you are paid for work from home days, this is acceptable, but your personal time is your own time, and you should not be working. Having downtime is essential for your mental health, and you need to make sure that you take good care of yourself.

Get Plenty Of Sleep

It is easy to think that if you are sat in a car all day, you shouldn’t be too tired. But your brain is working lots. It is important that you get plenty of sleep. A good eight hours of sleep each night will help you function well and will improve your cognitive abilities.
